Synopsis of We Will End Up Where We are Headed
Good and joyful day today to all Christian brothers and sisters on this the day the Lord has made. Pull up a chair, pour yourself a cup of coffee, or tea, or milk, or whatever is your favorite, we’re about to slice a piece of the Bread of Life, the Word of God. And today we will have two slices. The first is…. 2Kings 21:10 And the LORD spake by his servants the prophets, saying, 11 Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols: 12 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle. 13 And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down.
Josiah was a godly king in Israel. However before he came into power, the nation had fallen into all kinds of evil. God had finally had enough. As he came into power he began to clean up evil by burning all the idolatrous temples…. doing this without the benefit of reading God’s word, but through the Holy Spirit working in his heart. Then one day the Holy Scripture were discovered in the temple that had lain dormant for years. They had a profound impact King Josiah (2 Chronicles 34:1) He was so broken he tore his robes in repentance. He fell to his knees and repented for the wickedness of his nation. (Sounds like a good idea to me.
In other words he stood in the gap, and for that God honored him, but it wasn’t enough. God still had to judge the nation for it’s previous wickedness under the previous king, Manasseh.
Now for the second slice…. 2Chronicles34:27-28 Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
No nation is immune from God’s judgment. We must pray for our nation today. Pray that our nation will have a repentant heart among our leaders and the people. As we pray for God to guide us during the days leading up to the election, central to our prayers must be a repentant heart and a desire for revival. While we must cry out to God for the best men and women to be elected. We know that only God-sent revival and spiritual awakening in our churches will set our nation aright.
Psalm 33:12 says: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
God is Lord! Lets just stop and examine that word. By definition the word “lord” means: a person who has dominion over others. Also: a person who exercises authority from property rights.
With that in mind lets us listen to Professor Charles Hodge who, by the way, married the great-granddaughter of Benjamin Franklin. He wrote the following in 1871:
The proposition that the United States of America [is] a Christian…nation, is not so much the assertion of a principle as the statement of a fact. That fact is not simply that the great majority of the people are Christians…but that the organic life, the institutions, laws, and official action of the government, whether that action be legislative, judicial, or executive, is…in accordance with the principles of…Christianity…
If a man goes to China, he expects to find the government there administered according to the religion of the country. If he goes to Turkey, he expects to find the Koran supreme and regulating all public action. If he goes to a Protestant country, he has no right to complain, should he find the Bible in the preeminence and exerting its benign influence not only on the people, but also on the government…
In the process of time thousands have come among us, who are [not] Christians. Some are…Jews, some are infidels, and some atheists. All are welcomed; all are admitted to equal rights and privileges. All are allowed to acquire property, and to vote in every election… All are allowed to worship as they please, or not to worship at all…
No man is molested for his religion or for his want of religion. No man is required to profess any form of faith, or to join any religious association. More than this cannot reasonably be demanded.
More, however, is demanded. The infidel demands that the government should be conducted on the principle that Christianity is false, the atheist demands that it should be conducted on the assumption that there is no God… the sufficient answer to all this is that it cannot possibly be done”
Thank you Professor Hodge for reminding us today.
My friends, people of every faith have found liberty, security and economic opportunity in the United States, thanks to America’s Christian heritage and Constitution. Saving faith cannot be imposed. American law is rooted in the goodness of Judeo-Christian morality based on the Bible. Yet radical Muslims, homosexual activists, atheists and others, not content with America’s benefits, labor to overthrow our heritage and to impose their own faith upon our nation through craftiness, protest, lawsuits, propaganda, intimidation, even violence.Through such efforts America has become the land of double standards. Lets see……….
- If we lie to Congress it is a felony and if Congress lies to us it is just politics.
- The government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and they do almost nothing for the victims.
- In public schools you can teach that homosexuality is O.K., but you better not use the word God in the process.
- We do not burn books in America, we just re-write them
- We got rid of the communist and socialist by renaming them progressives.
- We are unable to close our borders with Mexico but have no problem protecting the 38th parallel in Korea.
- If you protest against the government’s policies you are branded a terrorist. But if you burn the American flag it is your first amendments right.
- You can have pornography on TV or the internet, but you better not put a nativity scene in a public park for Christmas.
- We have eliminated all criminals in America, we now call them sick people.
- We can use a human fetus for medical research, but it is wrong to use an animal.
- We take money from those who work and give much of it to some who do not want to work.
- We all support the Constitution, but only if it supports our ideology.
- We are told we still have freedom of speech, but only if we are being politically correct.
- Parenting has been replaced with Ritalin and video games.
- The land of opportunity is being turned into a land of handouts.
- What happened to the land of the home of the brave?
The last five chapters of the book of Isaiah tells that the nation which falls into the depravity of calling evil good and good evil, that honors the dishonorable and dishonors the honorable… the first thing that comes upon that nation is wicked, immature, and capricious leadership. Good is what God defines as good, and evil is what He defines as evil. To return to God includes loving what He loves and rejecting what he hates.
The politically correct mentality, or being overly sensitive to who might be offended by our actions, has us tied in knots so that we are not even fighting back against some of the primary assaults against us. To have a chance, we must cast off the naïve belief that if we are nice to everyone, they will like us. They will never like us and will never be satisfied until we’re destroyed and they have plundered us.
Oh, yes… some will brand this sermon as being inflammatory or revolutionary. I hope it will inflame the Christians to fight for God’s sake. And it is revolutionary. Because……… The American Revolution began in the pulpits.
