Synopsis of Is It Time for a Solemn Assembly ?
Good and joyful day today to all Christian brothers and sisters on this the day the Lord has made. Pull up a chair, pour yourself a cup of coffee, or tea, or milk, or whatever is your favorite, we’re about to slice a piece of the Bread of Life, the Word of God. And today’s slice comes from:
Joel 1:4 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD, 15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. & Joel 2:12 12 Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: 13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. 14 Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God? 15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: 16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. 17 Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God? 18 Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.
My friends, are you aware that we are living in days that were spoken of in the Spirit? Men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write detailed accounts of what, and even when, things were going to happen. In spite of all the negative and bad things going on in the world that are totally contrary to the will of God, here we are, now living in incredible days, in which we cannot afford to get caught up in simply living our lives in the flesh, apart from faith and expectation, and allow God’s purposes to pass us by.
This is the time, in fact, the acceptable time! This is the way of salvation awesome seasons of God’s favor and grace. In other words, this is an awesome time to trust, to serve and to obey God. It’s time for every child of God and every “kingdom citizen” to take the limits off of God. He desires to do great and mighty things in the midst of his people, but He needs our cooperation in reaching and winning this ungodly generation.
As the church of the living God, we must be forward in our thinking and passionate in our search, and excited about reaching our potential. We must be determined no matter of cost. And not being fearful to reach people for Christ and His kingdom
It is time to understand that the church is in the visible expression of the kingdom of God. We are a city on a hill, or as the scriptures tells it, “the light of the world,” that all men should see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. This is not meant only for the church family or the denomination; but to each of us as individuals. Now is the time for each of us to shine brighter, living our best lives now, making a difference wherever we are. That means outside the four walls of the church….. workplace…. marketplace…. community events… etc.
We have been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit; let us transform the environment, clean up the culture, challenge and change everything that opposes the Word of God and Christ.
Now is the time for us to take back our marriages, families, schools, communities, churches, and entire cities. To do so we must get involved; get off the sidelines. God is exalted, Jesus is Lord, and the devil is defeated.
People of God, this world needs a godly standard everywhere, Let us stand up for Christ, and speak the truth in love. Now is the time for us to evaluate our every action. We are to, at all times, be ambassadors of Christ that He calls us to be and we have accepted.
Bro. Dick, where do we begin? I’m glad you asked. The answer is in the title of today’s message: Is It Time for a Solemn Assembly?
Most professing Christians have never heard of a Solemn Assembly. There is not less than twelve revival moments in the Old Testament and there are at least four factors preceding each revival which they all hold in common.
1. A Tragic Deviation. Every revival of the Old Testament is preceded by a period of moral and spiritual decline among…. The people of God.
2. A Righteous Judgment From God….. O.T. revivals always are preceded by some kind of righteous judgment from God, some immediate, and some final.
3. The Raising Up of an Immensely Burdened Leader or Leaders….
• Moses- Exodus 32
• Samuel- Samuel 7
• David- Samuel 6,7
• Jehoshaphat- 2Chronicles 14-16
• Jehoida- 2Chronicles 24-24
• Hezekiah 2Chronicles 29-32
• Josiah- 2Chronicles 34-35
• Zerubbabel- Ezra 1-6
• Ezra- Ezra 7-10
• Nehemiah- Nehemiah 1-13
• Joel- Joel1-2
4. Some Extraordinary Action….. varying from revival to revival…most commonly the action taken was a….. SOLEMN ASSEMBLY !!!
