Synopsis of Learn From The Master
Good and joyful day today, to all brothers and sisters in the Lord, on this the day the Lord has made. Pull up a chair, pour yourself a cup of coffee, or tea, or milk or whatever is your favorite. We’re about to slice a piece of the bread of life, the Word of God. And today’s slice comes from EPH 6:10 ~The Whole Armor of God. But…. I’ll read it to you later in this message.
First let’s look at the term prayer and supplication. Another word for supplication, which is a word we do not use today in normal conversation, is…. Solicitation. So think of our need to pray and solicit the assistance of the always available Holy Spirit. We don’t have to go very far to find Him, He lives within our spirit.
A disciple lives to learn from their master and to become like Him. This is our ultimate life purpose as Christians—to learn from the Master, our Lord Jesus Christ, every day, to become like Him, and …..and …..to do the works that He did.
Many aspects of Christ’s life that we should seek for our own are: loving God above all things, loving others with the faith in God to help them, living pure and holy before the Lord, knowing His ways and being able to teach them, knowing the times and accurately predicting the future, etc. Many protest that Jesus could do these things because He was God. However, He emptied Himself to become a man. He did not come to show us how God lives but to show us how we are to live. If we abide in the King, we will also exercise His authority on earth.
In John 17:18 when Jesus prayed to the Father, He said that as He had been sent into the world, He was sending us. This means that we have been sent into the world with the same purpose as Jesus, excepting the atonement, of course. Jesus appeared to “destroy the works of the devil” (see I John 3:8). We are sent with this same purpose. This is why we have been given the divinely powerful weapons for the destruction of strongholds. Each of us has evil strongholds that we should be assaulting until they are destroyed. Seldom are we sent to do this alone, rather this is a main purpose for the church on the earth at this time.
Just as it is a basic military principle that we cannot defeat an enemy we do not see, the more clearly we see the enemy and understand him, the greater our advantage in the conflict. Fundamental in this unfolding and ultimate conflict is our training in righteousness and devotion to truth, searching it out and standing on it without compromise. Yet we are also warned not to be ignorant of the enemy’s schemes.
In 2008, we began to pray for the Holy Spirit to move in our country. We asked for the Spirit of Truth to reveal truth that was hidden that we needed to know. This happened quickly as appalling things being done by our own Government began to be revealed. More shocking than what was being done to us was how few Christians seemingly actually cared. Probably, because the economy was foremost on most people’s minds. Certainly this is a crisis that threatens us, but it seemed to give silent approval to the trampling of many of our basic Christian rights and freedoms to worship our God.
First, we must not let fear control us. We must also understand how we, citizens of His kingdom, have far greater power than any power on the earth. The Holy Spirit’s ability to monitor behavior, and even the intentions of the heart, will always trump the NSA’s monitoring Christians, as they have referred to “Evangelical Christians” as their enemies. ( There words, not mine. ) Even so, we do need to understand how and why the control mechanisms are being prepared and how the spirit of this world intends to use them.
The illumination of this by the Holy Spirit is for a purpose. The spirit of this world may be planning to use the increasing technology, but I would rather have the Holy Spirit than any amount of technology. Even so, we need to grow in our spiritual authority, spiritual gifts, and spiritual abilities just as the world is growing in technology. The divinely powerful weapons given to His saints, that’s us, can destroy even the worst evil intent, or most powerful enemy strongholds. Will we use them? If we will, everything that has been intended for evil can be turned into good.
If the Holy Spirit is behind the revelations that are coming – of which I have been preaching – then He will also provide a means for countering the enemy’s schemes. There are two main factors we must keep in mind.
The first factor is that people, even in government, are never our enemy. We are not warring against flesh and blood, but against evil powers that are using them. Our ultimate victory is to see the people, who are now being used as enemies, set free also.
The second factor is that the Holy Spirit is the Helper, not the Doer. He will do His part, but He expects us to do ours. What is our part in these matters now?
The Holy Spirit knows more about every human being than the NSA will ever know. He also knows the future. I have conversations almost daily with people who have conversations in government or politics. I have a great personal distaste for politics in general. However, I have come to love, respect, and learn from some who I think are called to do what they are doing, including some of our Christian congressmen. I think I have been able to encourage some of them. Yet one overriding mentality that I believe is a major stumbling block to the kind of leadership we need today is the over-concern for how people or the media are going to respond to an initiative. Far more important than what coalition will make up the magical 51% vote is how do we recover the favor of God? This must begin by turning to Him and acknowledging not only that He has us in His army, but that we must have Him to lead us in our spiritual warfare
It is time to dress for battle…. . So now, for that promise of the slice of bread of life, the word of God.
EPH 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
We need to hear this over and over that we remember it over and over in coming days, months and years of spiritual battle we must enter into.
We are now into the time when the glory of the Lord is being revealed. Ultimate evil is being revealed as well. As I already mentioned, when we started to pray for the Spirit of Truth to reveal things going on in the U.S. Government that we needed to know, my biggest surprise was how so few Christians even cared about what was being brought to the light. However, I should not have been surprised or discouraged by it.
As we began to discuss last week, those in government or politics are constantly weighing things by how people might respond, how the media will spin it, or how to win the magical 51% majority. That is certainly not a kingdom mentality. It is not even a good understanding of the source of major cultural change. The great tipping points in history have seldom come from the majority; they almost always come from a very few.
