Today’s slice of the Bread of Life, the Word of God, comes from Ezekiel 3:17-19:
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from my mouth, and give them warning from me: When I say to the wicked, ‘you shall surely die’, and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. Yet, if you warn the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.”
So, Ezekiel was to warn the wicked when God told him to do so. If he was a bad watchman and didn’t deliver the message, then Ezekiel himself would be judged for not fulfilling this role. But obedience to God’s command brought deliverance to the bearer of the warning even if the recipient did not heed the message. A non-warning watchman is in trouble with God because he has held back what should have been spoken. Neither the listener nor the watchman is excused for disobedience.
The message last Sunday dealt primarily with “He spoke, He speaks today and He speaks through His prophets today”. At the end of the message I mentioned that today’s message would discuss how He winks at us. Yes, God winks, if you are watching.
Have you ever prayed for an answer from God and begin to ask, “God, are you there”? Then you realize the immensity of your request, to have God answer you right now. There are over six billion people on this planet. What if they are all calling God at the same time?
And then something happens; a silly little thing. Perhaps someone you just thought of for the first time in years telephones you out of the blue. Ah, just a silly little coincidence, you think, and shrug it off.
Or, a prayer you didn’t really expect to be answered, and it was. You think it was a coincidence? Maybe God is communicating with you in a non-verbal way; making little miracles happen. Yes, directly to you. After all, God does not speak to people in a human voice.
If so, that means He is listening! Right? Hey, He’s heard you! That is the crux of this message. And it is what I call a “God Wink.” I and a young man I’m ministering to thought we had coined that phrase, “God Wink”. Then we found a book written by Squire Bushnell titled, “When God Winks at You.”
Think about this. As a kid you are sitting at the dining room table and you look up and someone you love, perhaps Grandpa, gives you a little wink. What did it mean? Something like, “Hey kid, I’m thinking about you at this moment” or “I’m proud of you” or “Everything is going to be all right.” That’s what a God Wink is like.
It is His silent way of giving you His small, silent communication, almost like: “Hey kid, I’m thinking about you right at this moment.” And that is a sure message of reassurance. It is also a sign that you are never alone. Squire Bushnell has acquired several compelling stories that will convince you that you never again have to wonder where you rank among those six billion other people on earth. When you receive a God Wink, you will know it.
Here are a few of his stories, and a few of mine…
